Restoration Demo

The hull wood is sealed and the steel keel is reattached. The bottom is taped off, primed, sanded, primed and sanded again. It was then painted with eight coats of enamel paint, being finely sanded between each and every coat. Once the paint was completely dry and hardened, we removed the tape, flipped her over and taped off the painted bottom. The natural wood portion of the bottom was then varnished with six coats, each finely sanded in between. This is the only way we know of to achieve such a fine super shinny perfect finish.

There is no rushing to be had in this step. If you apply another coat of paint or varnish before it is time, it will run and have to be sanded off. If you handle it before it is hard, you will leave impressions and marks in the finish. It's a slow process but it completes the work on the hull. Now we're ready to turn her over.
