Built in 1961, Greenling was the twelfth of fourteen nuclear-powered submarines of the Thresher class. Designed to be the fastest, deepest diving and quietest submarine built to date.

One of only three Improved Thresher Class, she went in for major modifications in 1964 after the tragic accident of the USS Thresher SSN 593 which took all men aboard to the bottom of the sea.

Redesignated as the 594 or Permit Class Submarines with her sister ships the USS Flasher SSN 613 and the USS Gato SSN 615

All three were fitted with heavier machinery and a larger sail, they were ten feet longer than the other units of the class to correct stability problems caused by weight growth.

Enhanced with exterior detailing including air brushed highlights bring out water reflections and weathering. This makes for a much more interesting model to view than just a simple single color.

Our Permit Class submarines are made of solid resin, we use brass propellers, drive shafts and brass or stainless pedestals.

Each model is mounted on a natural wood base, shown here on a beautiful Mahogany which is finished in numerous coats of urethane finish for a durable satin finish.

A protective flame polished clear acrylic cover and custom engraved brass nameplate are included for a top quality professional display.
